Wilsons fame surpassed that of the United States in 2014, as she landed a part in Showtimes The Affair. In this show, Wilson played Alison Lockhart who is a young troubled woman with a dark past. Lockhart is a lover of a married Noah Solloway. Wilson received an Golden Globe Award for Best Actress of the Television Series in Drama 2015 together with Mauratierney as well as Joshua Jackson. Wilson stated to British Vogue, "I loved getting to portray the character that has two sides to this story." Noah thinks Alison is an attractive, confident and reckless self-image. She sees herself in a totally different way which on the outside is dull and in the shadows and not wanting to stand out. She also said that she believes America to be so moralistic. In 2018, Wilson quit the show, to delight of a lot of viewers but she was not clear on other specifics. In an August 2018 interview with CBS This Morning, Wilson stated that she did wish to leave the show but wasn't allowed to explain why. Wilson is now focusing on film. She starred in the 2016 film of horror I Am the Pretty Thing which is a house and played the cryptic PT Stella character in the 2017 sci-fi romance How to Talk to Girls at Parties. To add more horror films to her credits list, she will star in the British film version of The Little Stranger. This supernatural thriller was based on the novel by Sarah Waters. Wilson will also serve as the executive producer of this film.
